The Paris Agreement climate pledge aims to keep the global temperature
increase below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels to limit global warming. It
strongly recommends limiting a 1.5°C increase by 2050.
According to the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports, to
stay within a 2°C increase, we need to lower CO2 emissions by 25% by 2030
compared to 2010 levels and reach net zero by 2070. But to limit global warming to a
1.5°C increase, CO2 emissions must be reduced by 45% by 2030 compared to
2010 and reach net zero by around 2050.
The CO2 percentage reduction chart demonstrates the % savings on
CO2 emissions of your product decisions compared to commonly used
building materials over the past decade. In this way, it maps how your choices map
against IPCC recommendations.

Carbon Offsetting
Carbon offsets pay for carbon-reducing schemes and activities, such as tree
planting or carbon sequestration, to offset or compensate for the CO2
emitted by an individual or organisation. There is a price set for CO2
trading, which is regionalised and regularly updated. CO2 is quantified,
purchased and traded as part of a commercial scheme.
Average Carbon offset price: £16.5 /tCO2 (Q1 2024, UK)

The Social Cost of Carbon (SCC) evaluates economic damages from a minor rise in CO2 emissions, typically one ton per year, reflecting CO2's comprehensive impact on people, communities, and nature. It covers direct climate effects and long-term global warming consequences. Despite its complexity and assumption-based nature, the SCC is increasingly employed in UK government evaluations.
SCC price: £40.16 /tCO2 (Q1 2024, UK)
